New Trial Date Set For Sen. Orie
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A new trial date has been set for State Sen. Jane Orie.
Shortly before noon, Judge Jeffrey Manning set the new trial date for April 11.
However, Sen. Orie's defense attorney said he will file motions to stop that new trial based on double jeopardy.
Orie's case ended in a mistrial Thursday afternoon.
Judge Manning declared the mistrial after the prosecution accused the defense of submitting forged evidence.
Sen. Orie's defense called the charges outrageous. However, a handwriting expert determined signatures had been copied and pasted onto documents.
Judge Manning called the alleged forgery deceitful, dishonest, despicable and a crime.
Sen. Orie and her sister, Janine, are accused of illegally using the senator's office for campaign work.
