New Pirate Brandon Inge Excited For Opportunity With Pirates
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - New Pirates Infielder Brandon Inge is taking part in his first spring training outside of the Detroit Tigers organization, and told Starkey, Miller and Mueller on Sports Radio 93.7 The FAN that it's pretty different for him, but he's really enjoying it so far.
Inge joined the Pirates roster short on postseason experience, and having been there before, he told us what he can bring to the team to try and prevent another second half collapse.
"To get to the postseason, you have to compete which I don't see that as a problem last year for Pittsburgh, it was more so they may have pressed a little bit too hard," he said. "A lot of times that's more detrimental than anything."
Inge saw some dark days in Detroit before they were finally able to turn things around, and shared with us the keys to going from a losing organization, to a winning one.
"In most sports, everyone thinks it's one piece that's gonna do it, and it's really not," Inge said. "(Money) is a big piece of it, but there's other pieces. You have to have good management ... and good guys in the clubhouse. It's not just one piece. Getting some veteran guys in the clubhouse ... that's probably the best start, and it takes money to get those guys."
Having played for Jim Leyland, we wrapped things up with Inge asking him what he learned from the former Pirates skipper now with the Detroit Tigers.
