New Kensington Man Arrested After Armed Robbery At Mini-Mart
ARNOLD (KDKA) -- A man is in custody after an armed robbery at a convenience store in Westmoreland County.
Jared McLain, 23, of New Kensington was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with an armed holdup at the All Seasons Mini Market in Arnold.
The co-owner of the convenience store, Glenn Marsh, said the robber pointed a loaded semi-automatic handgun at him, and said, "I'm sorry I had to do this, but I need the money for my sick daughter."
Marsh said he stalled McLain inside the store and pressed his silent security alarm. Police were on the scene within minutes.
McLain was arrested nearby and charged with armed robbery.
Marsh told KDKA's Ralph Iannotti, "I didn't want him to have my money; it wasn't his, and he wasn't going to get it."
Marsh has run the same convenience store for the past 18 years.
He says he's never been the victim of an armed robbery before this incident.
He credits an elaborate surveillance security camera system for helping keep his store relatively safe, even though he's been targeted numerous times by would-be shoplifters.
