New Information Released In 2013 Bank Robbery & Homicide Case

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Prosecutors have released new information about a bank robbery and homicide in South Strabane Township three years ago.

Three years ago today, Good Samaritan Vincent Kelly was shot and killed by the suspect.

On June 16, 2013, police say the lone robber, wearing a straw hat, mask and gloves, robbed the Citizens Bank branch in the South Strabane Giant Eagle.

It was Father's Day and Vincent Kelley, 46, of Washington, was shopping in the store.

He chased after the suspect as he ran to a car. In a tussle in the suspect's vehicle, Kelley was shot multiple times.

The suspect got away and has yet to be identified.

Today, police released information about the license plate of the vehicle. Police believe the suspect got away in a vehicle with the Pennsylvania license plate HZT-6987.

That plate was one of a number of plates stolen in the Bridgeville-Scott Township area.

Investigators also believe the suspect robbed another store just days prior to the Citizens Bank robbery.

"There was another armed robbery, two days prior to our incident. This would have taken place on Friday, June 14, at the Penn West Gold & Diamond store, which is located in Bridgeville," South Strabane Twp. Det. Ken Torboli said.

Kelley's family was present during the press conference today. They are planning a vigil at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Giant Eagle where Kelley died.
