New Details In Death Of 3-Year-Old Homewood Boy
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police sources are revealing new details in the shooting death of a 3-year-old boy in Homewood.
KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin reports 18-year-old Gregory Dalton, who was in the room with the child, will face gun, child endangerment and possible manslaughter charges when he's arrested.
Police believe Zymiere Sewell picked up Dalton's gun and accidentally shot himself.
Police believe Dalton was lying in bed with the 3-year-old and his 1-year-old sister.
Detectives believe Dalton left his .380 semiautomatic gun on the bed and walked out of the room. When he did, police believe the 3-year-old picked up the gun and accidentally shot himself in the face.
Sources indicating the details were provided by witnesses.
"We are starting to learn a little bit more about what happened inside the house," Pittsburgh Police Commander Thomas Stangrecki said Tuesday night. "Everyone has been very cooperative in this investigation."
Witnesses told police the 3-year-old boy loved toy guns, video games and was always watching violent video games.
Witnesses told detectives that the boy pointed plastic guns at himself while playing and at times pulled the trigger.
Detectives are convinced the 3-year-old thought Dalton's gun was a toy.
"[D] ain't going to pick up no gun and point it to his own head," Anthony Sewell, the boy's father, said.
Detectives say it would take both hands for the 3-year-old to pull the trigger. They also say tests expected back Thursday will most likely determine the possibility.
Meantime, police are still looking for Dalton who also has outstanding warrants on drug and assault charges.
