New Details Emerge In Pending Sale Of Local Nursing Home
BUTLER (KDKA) -- At Wednesday's Butler County Commissioner' meeting there was more passion about plans to sell Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Home.
A 2-to-1 majority of Butler County Commissioners is looking for buyers willing to pay at least $13.5 million for the facility.
They've started the ball rolling for a sale, which opponents are hoping to stop.
There was a rally of union workers who are involved in a contentious negotiation with the county over just what it would take in terms of concessions and other costs savings to keep the facility in county hands.
Commissioner Bill McCarrier says Sunnyview does not break even and questions whether 187,000 Butler county residents should bear the responsibility for 200 Sunnyview residents.
Commissioner Jack Eckstein opposes the sale and rallied with the workers and residents.
"What they do to me doesn't really matter to me because I try to do the right thing. But the day they get rid of Sunnyview will be my worst day in office so let's hope we can stop it, okay?" he says.
At this point, companies interested in submitting a bid have until Dec. 13.
