New Details Emerge In Moon Twp. Bank Robbery
BRENTWOOD (KDKA) – A man was arrested after robbing a bank and initiating a standoff in Brentwood Sunday night.
According to police, the suspect may have a lengthy criminal history.
It is now believed, 31-year-old Christopher Lyons, may be the same man responsible for a string of robberies in the early 2000s.
In those cases, a man named Christopher Lyons was arrested and sentenced as the so-called "Main Street Robber."
He was convicted in connection with eight bank robberies in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Now, Moon Township Police, in conjunction with the FBI, are collecting evidence to file appropriate charges for possibly another hit.
"We did get a picture of him when he was inside the bank," Moon Township Police Captain Gregory Seaman said.
According to police, Lyons entered the Citizens Bank at the Giant Eagle on University Boulevard in Moon Township around noon on Sunday.
The suspect passed a note to the teller, which demanded cash. Once he was in the parking lot, the bag exploded with red dye.
"You know, it is going to explode. So, hopefully the person will drop the money or we can find evidence of that on him, on his clothing, in his vehicle, in his residence, wherever," Captain Seaman said.
After his vehicle was identified, a standoff ensued at Lyons' Brentwood home. There was great concern for Lyons and for officers, once they got inside.
"When they got into the house, they confronted the suspect. He had a gun and a knife. And he had some self-inflicted wounds," Captain Seaman said.
According to police, he was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for surgery for a laceration to his neck.
Meanwhile, police and the FBI are trying to piece together evidence and similarities as they build their case against this alleged robber.
