New Castle Couple Renews Vows 70 Years Later
NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- Cascade Park in New Castle has welcomed visitors for more than a century.
It has been the site of countless memories; but few can match the very first date of a New Castle couple who met here in 1939. They were married the following year. Now they return, to renew their vows.
Frederick Feil, now in hospice care, wished that he and his wife Adelaide could return here, one more time. His wish was granted by a Uniontown organization called Unity: A Journey of Hope founded by hospice nurse John Robinson and his wife Bobbi.
They have also provided a cake and gifts and a crowd of well-wishers.
"We grant wishes to adults that have a life-limiting illness," John Robinson says. "We're kind of like Make-a-Wish, although we're not associated, but that's exactly what we do."
"Frederick, will you have this woman to be thy wedded wife?" Judge Dominick Motto performs the ceremony, as the couple recalls that first date in Cascade Park.
"He was a farm boy and I was a city girl," Adelaide recalls. "That was a big difference, but we fell in love at first sight and we have loved ever since."
Cascade Park was the matchmaker. But Mr. Feil had the key to keeping it together: "Keep your mouth shut and helping out."
