Neil Walker Homers In Pirates 10-1 Win Over Tigers
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – The Pirates appear to be picking up momentum as they beat the Detroit Tigers, 10-1 on Friday night.
This is the club's third win after going on a six-game skid.
Jeff Karstens (3-2, 3.32 ERA) allowed just one run and three hits over six innings. He gave up a homerun to Ramon Santiago at the top of the sixth.
The offense backed up a strong outing by Karstens who retired the first 14 batters he faced.
Neil Walker homered and drove in a career-high five runs.
Walker's two-run double in the sixth off Detroit reliever Brayan Villarreal helped break open a tight game. He later added a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth.
Brad Penny (5-5) took the loss after suffering a rare bout with wildness. He surrendered five runs in 5 2-3 innings, thanks in part to a season-high five walks, as the Tigers lost their fourth in a row.
