Friends, Family Mourn Victims In Parkway North Crash

OHIO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) - Two people are dead after a person drove the wrong way on the Parkway North in Ohio Township Monday night.

According to police, the accident happened after 8 p.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 279 when a wrong-way driver hit another car head-on.

The question is, how did the woman get onto the Parkway North, heading in the wrong direction?

The wrong-way driver has been identified as Amy Tua, 45, of Harmony. The other driver has been identified as Gary Helba, 42, of Pittsburgh.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they believe Tua got onto the Parkway using a proper on-ramp, but may have crossed over the center median into the southbound lanes. They believe she probably traveled about mile before crashing into Helba.

Tua's husband says she drove on the Parkway everyday, so he's having a hard time believing she got on in the wrong direction too.

Her husband also said Tua was taking a lot of medication.

Helba's neighbor, Mike Lambo, described as a friendly, outgoing guy.

Lambo said police came to their apartment complex last night around 10 p.m. and while they didn't reveal why they were there, he had a sinking feeling.

"The cops came. That's the first thought that came to my mind that something must have happened," Lambo said.

State police are trying to determine where and how Tua got on to the southbound lanes of the Parkway North.

The news of the crash was devastating for those who knew Helba. Neighbors said he was married only a year or so ago, was family-oriented and couldn't be a nicer guy.

"He's a really good guy. He knows everybody here. Everybody likes him," Lambo said. "He's that kind of guy. He talks to everybody. He's really friendly."

The crash is still under investigation and state police are waiting for the results of toxicology tests.
