Murrysville Group To Help Flood Victims
MURRYSVILLE (KDKA) -- It feels like déjà vu for Murrysville's Medic One.
They just got back from helping flood victims in New Jersey, and late Wednesday they were back on the road on their way to eastern Pennsylvania for more flooding.
This time, they're headed to Bradford County, along the New York State border, where a state of emergency has been declared because of Tropical Storm Lee.
Eleven members of Medic One who are paramedics and EMTs packed up their gear and hit the road just after 7 p.m. Wednesday.
They anticipate having to help in the evacuation process, filling in for crews who have already put in very long hours.
They've been trained in swift water rescue and are taking ATVs because roads have been washed out.
While Mia Provenzo, an EMT, says it's difficult to be away from home, she also said, "This is what we do. What we live for. This is why we're on the team. This is our job."
They don't know how long they'll be there.
A group from New Castle, Lawrence County, is also among those headed to the region.
