Munhall Woman Attacked While Taking Out Trash
MUNHALL (KDKA) -- A Munhall woman was taking out her trash in the middle of the afternoon when she says she was beaten and robbed.
One of the two suspects is in custody, but the other is still on the run.
Jackie Smigas was taking the trash out Wednesday afternoon when she encountered two men in her garage. She didn't know either of the men.
"You know how you have the sixth sense of somebody's there? I turned and there was two black males and they were [kneeling] down," said Smigas.
Smigas was startled, but it seems so were the two strangers.
"The guy said to me, in other terms, 'Who are you?'" said Smigas. "And I said, 'Well who are you? This is my home. What are you doing in my garage?'"
But there wasn't much more conversation.
The next thing Smigas knew, one of the two had run out of the garage and the other became more aggressive.
"He had gotten on top of me, and I had turned my head and tried to cover my face," said Smigas. "He just continued to punch me in the face, and every time I'd go to say something, he'd just punch me and say shut up."
Smigas was thinking enough to hit the garage door opener before the assault began in hopes that someone would hear scream, and a neighbor did.
But by then the assailant was gone. He had taken everything that had been in her purse and left her bloodied.
"I have no idea who he was. I have no idea why he attacked me," Smigas said. "He just kept pounding away."
She says now not only is she afraid because of the assault, she's angry. She says she used to model and now she just feels vulnerable.
"I'm mad because I don't know why somebody would do that to somebody," she said, "especially I don't know them, they don't know me."
Munhall Police tell Smigas they have picked up one of the two people they believe are responsible for her attack. They say he's a juvenile.
