PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Gunfire broke out late Monday afternoon in the 7200 block of Mt. Vernon Street in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
Police secured the area, immediately taping it off, putting down evidence markers, and collecting multiple shell casings. Officers went into several homes nearby, looking for possible witnesses.
Police said the incident stemmed from some sort of an altercation in the middle of the street. A Zone 5 Police Unit was flagged down by the victim a few blocks away at Frankstown Street and Murtland Avenue.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police did not release his identity. He was transported to a hospital by ambulance and immediately went into surgery, and was initially unable to provide police with information that might help in the investigation.
Detectives were hoping a nearby surveillance camera could provide clues – such as a description of a suspect, or if he gunman was on foot, or his mode of transportation.
