Mt. Lebanon Teacher Accused Of Inappropriate Communication Waives Hearing
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Mount Lebanon High School music teacher who is suspended without pay waived his preliminary hearing Thursday, choosing to go straight to court on charges including corruption of a minor.
His attorney, Phil DiLucente, told KDKA's Brenda Waters he wants to see all of the alleged text messages before going to court.
A former student at Mount Lebanon claims Jason Greenawalt sent explicit text messages via cell and through a social networking application where gay men seek out others to chat with or hook up.
The minor, then a student, said he felt manipulated and trapped but wanted to remain one of Greenawalt's favorite students.
The minor says the texting went on from November of 2010 until June of 2012, but it wasn't until earlier this month that the complaint was filed with police.
DiLucente says, "My legal feeling is that when you don't promptly complain, there may be an issue with the complaint."
DiLucente say Greenawalt had a teacher-student relationship with the minor, but there never was touching or sex involved.
Greenawalt told reporters: "I just want this to be over."
His next court appearance will be in May.
