"Mr. High School Sports" - WPIAL Football Playoff Picture Update

We're in the home stretch of the 2011 WPIAL football regular season, so here's a quick look at the teams that have punched their ticket to the postseason, and the teams that have some work to do to get there heading into Week 7.

We'll list which teams have officially clinched a playoff berth, which teams have been officially eliminated from playoff contention, and which teams are "in trouble" (those with either zero or one conference wins entering this weekend)...

(16 spots are available in each classification; the top four teams in each conference qualify)

CLASS AAAA:

WHO'S IN: Pittsburgh Central Catholic and Penn-Trafford

WHO'S OUT: Nobody

WHO'S IN TROUBLE: Hempfield, Norwin, Latrobe, Altoona, Plum, Kiski Area, Baldwin, Peters Township, Canon-McMillan, Seneca Valley, Pine-Richland, Butler

CLASS AAA:

WHO'S IN: Nobody

WHO'S OUT: Nobody

WHO'S IN TROUBLE: Laurel Highlands, Albert Gallatin, Uniontown, Hampton, Kittanning, Valley, South Park, Elizabeth Forward, McGuffey, Ambridge, Moon

CLASS AA:

WHO'S IN: Aliquippa, Greensburg Central Catholic, Jeannette

WHO'S OUT: Freedom, Mohawk, Charleroi, Brownsville

WHO'S IN TROUBLE: Apollo-Ridge, Deer Lakes, West Shamokin, Steel Valley, Quaker Valley, South Allegheny, Southmoreland, Yough, New Brighton, Riverside

CLASS A:

WHO'S IN: Beth-Center

WHO'S OUT: Mapletown, West Greene

WHO'S IN TROUBLE: Bentworth, Avella, Serra Catholic, South Side Beaver, Union, Shenango, Neshannock, Geibel, Carmichaels, Wilkinsburg, Leechburg

CITY LEAGUE:
