"Mr. High School Sports" - Two-Sport Spartan Drawing Double D-1 Attention

The good folks of Robinson Township, to say nothing of the rest of the WPIAL, are used to seeing Montour athlete Devin Wilson excel both on the gridiron and in the gym. That versatility has not gone unnoticed on a national level, either.

In case you missed it, Wilson recently picked up his first round of basketball scholarship offers, including one from Robert Morris. The others are from Akron, and from Hostra and James Madison, which compete against each other in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Wilson, a 6'3" point guard and incoming senior, helped Montour to a surprise win over South Fayette for the WPIAL Class AAA championship as a sophomore, and as a junior, he was a regular on a Spartan squad that reached the district semifinals and later upset previously unbeaten New Castle in the state playoffs. He is ranked as the No. 6 Class of '13 male player in the greater Pittsburgh area by the Pittsburgh Basketball Report.

But first things first. He has to put on some pads and gear up for defense of Montour's first WPIAL Class AAA football title since 1964. Wilson, a starting receiver, racked up a district-high 72 catches for 901 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Ironically, his only formal football scholarship offer has come from an ACC school--North Carolina State--whereas most of the interest in him for football has come from Big East and Big Ten schools, including Pitt and Penn State.

It got us thinking: who are some of the other premier multi-sport stars in the WPIAL entering the 2012-13 season? Well, just off the top of my head...

Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Hopewell - Not only did she provide the backbone of Hopewell's girls' volleyball team, she put the girls' basketball team on her back with a record-setting performance at the WPIAL Basketball Championships. Recruited by Maryland for hoops.

Tyler Boyd, Clairton - Keep an eye on him at the WPIAL Track and Field Championships next spring, assuming he can stay healthy this time, and keep an eye on him this fall as he tries to lead Clairton to a fifth consecutive district championship in football. Also made key contributions to basketball team, which made the Class A playoffs.

Chavas Rawlins, Monessen - Ranked as the No. 15 dual-threat quarterback in the nation by MaxPreps, and will try to be the next Geno Smith at West Virginia, with whom he very recently signed. Guard on the basketball team, coming off back-to-back WPIAL Final appearances.

Scott Orndoff, Seton-LaSalle - Tight end who provided toughness and playmaking ability to one of the most prolific offenses in WPIAL football as a junior, and followed Paul Chryst to Pitt after he left Wisconsin. Has also excelled in track in both the 200- and 400-meter events.
