Mr. College Football Talks Pitt, Iron Bowl & BCS Title Game
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - CBS Sports college football analyst Tony Barnhart, better known as "Mr. College Football," joined The Fan Morning Show on Wednesday morning to talk all things college football.
Barnhart has watched many college football games over the years and he said we may have seen one of the top three ever this past weekend in the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama.
"It was right up there with the best finishes I have ever seen," Barnhart said.
He said the Iron Bowl is always drama in itself, but the BCS Title implications added so much more.
"The sheer drama, can't beat it," Barnhart said.
He says that Ohio State's record is flawed because they have not played a top 15 team in over two years, but adds that is more about where the Big Ten Conference is right now.
"Even though the record is flawed, if Ohio State beats Michigan State in the Big 10 Championship, they will play for the national title," Barnhart said.
He said all year he thought Florida State and Alabama were a cut above the rest and now Florida State will get a shot at the title. He says they have been dominant but it's actually the defense that makes them a really great team. He said since trailing 17-3 at Boston College in September, the Seminoles have outscored their opponents 484-89.
He says he saw a Pitt team that was in every game this year. They were competitive and he thinks Chryst has them heading in the right direction.
"They just need a bunch more Aaron Donald's and they will be fine," Barnhart added.
He also says that he expects Bill O'Brien will stay at Penn State or at least he doesn't get the sense that he is looking to go anywhere. He says Penn State would be fortunate to keep him for a long time.
