Movie Review: 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – After seven X-Men movies, you might wonder if the franchise is starting to get a bit stale. With X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the answer is an overwhelmingly no.
Director Bryan Singer is back after an eleven year hiatus to direct the latest X-Men installment.
He started the franchise, directing the first two X-Men movies.
After several sequels, prequels, and spinoffs, Singer is back to right the franchise ship.
As you might imagine, he does a masterful job of it as well.
The movie takes place across two time periods, as the beloved characters from the original X-Men films join forces with their younger selves to save the future.
The X-Men spend most of the time on the run from the Sentinels, a robot race of exterminators that can adapt to any X-Men's abilities to destroy them.
Patrick Stewart is back as "Professor X," and Ian McKellen reprises his "Magneto" role.
What would a good X-Men movie be without a fight between the two, or their younger selves played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
Also returning, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Halle Berry as Storm, and Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde.
Don't forget Peter Dinklage who stars as Dr. Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels.
There are a variety of other X-Men characters that return as well, most of them in more of a guest starring role.
The special effects for X-Men: Days Of Future Past were excellent.
The action is intense, although there are a few slow spots in the movie.
Singer and his cast do an excellent job of weaving in the story line, and not losing viewers in the process.
Overall I'd give the latest X-Men installment a solid B+.
Be sure to stick around after the credits for a little something extra, that could be a clue to the next X-Men sequel, or is it a prequel… or even maybe a spinoff.
