Motorists Should Expect Road Delays & Closures This Weekend
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - PennDOT wants to remind motorists to be aware of heavy road construction taking place this weekend.
Motorists should plan accordingly by anticipating highway work zones, slowing down and being prepared for highway and bridge closings and congestion.
Here is a look at the weekend construction summary:
Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) will be closed in both directions beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday and continuing through late November.
According to PennDOT, "Traffic will be detoured using the on-and-off ramps to Beaver Avenue and California Avenue."
Roadwork will be taking place on the inbound Parkway East between the bridge over Second Avenue and the Grant Street Interchange.
This will occur from 10 p.m. on Friday through 5 p.m. Saturday and motorists should expect heavy delays.
You can also expect some short-term bridge and ramp work on Interstate 579 Crosstown Boulevard this weekend through Monday morning.
The Liberty Bridge Ramp to northbound I-579 will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday.
Diamond Street will be closed from 8 p.m. on Friday through early Monday between Fifth and Sixth Avenues.
Also, intermittent single lane traffic will occur on the westbound Parkway East beginning at the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and continuing inbound to the Boulevard of the Allies to the Liberty Bridge ramp from 8 p.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Sunday.
"The HOV lanes on the Parkway North are open to all outbound traffic on weekends after 7 p.m. on Friday and remain open until 5 p.m. on Mondays," PennDOT said.
Long-term roadwork closures will be taking place from the westbound Boulevard of the Allies to the southbound Liberty Bridge from 10 a.m. Sunday and continuing through Aug. 20.
The Liberty Tunnel will be closed both inbound and outbound from 10 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday.
