Motorcyclist Killed In North Side Crash
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One man has died after his motorcycle collided with a transport bus Wednesday on Pittsburgh's North Side.
The victim of the motorcycle crash has been identified as 41-year-old Doug Cotton of the city's Homewood-Brushton neighborhood.
The cycle collided with an Allegheny General Hospital transport van right in front of the hospital.
Witnesses say Cotton popped a wheelie when he got the green light on East North Avenue.
The van was making a left onto Sandusky Street when the crash happened.
Police tell KDKA's Kym Gable it's too early in the investigation to talk about fault.
Cotton's friends and loved ones showed up at the scene to grieve together.
They say he was on his way to see his 15-year-old son in the Hill District.
"Everybody knows us and it's never been us, it's always been somebody else," said Ron Smith, a friend of the victim. "It's the first time it's hit home like this, and this is going to hurt. All we can do is try to support his son and his kids now. Try and make his mom feel as comfortable as possible, and most of all think – keep that in our mind, what happened to him could happen to us."
Medical professionals from AGH and other motorists tried to revive him, but his injuries were too severe.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
