Mother Of 6 Shot And Killed In Uniontown
UNIONTOWN (KDKA) -- 32-year-old Jacqueline Carey, mother of six children, died Friday night.
Police say the shooting happened at her sister's house around 10 p.m. on Farragut Street in Uniontown. Her six children weren't there.
"I was flagged down by a female who lived in 31 Farragut Street. She advised me she needed an ambulance and when I asked why thinking it might be related to a shots fired call, she indicated her sister fell down," Uniontown Police Lt. Thomas Kolencik said.
Officer Kolencik said he called an ambulance and went inside to take a look around.
"I noticed a female sitting on floor propped up against counter and she appeared to be deceased at the time," Lt. Kolencik said.
Officer Kolencik says he didn't see any evidence to indicate that Carey had been shot. He performed CPR on the victim before she was taken to Uniontown Hospital and pronounced dead. Doctors found a bullet in her upper left chest area.
Carey was one of eight people at the home for a party. They told police they heard tapping outside.
"Mrs. Carey went to the front of the house and leaned down, lifted the front of the curtain and that a gunshot came through aluminum frame and hit her heart," Lt. Kolencik said.
Police don't think Carey was the target in this shooting but believe someone else at the party was. Police say a small argument between two people at the home could have initiated the gunfire when they were asked to leave a short time later. They were taken into custody and questioned then released later. They're being called persons of interest.
"Hopefully once evidence comes back from crime lab can pull this together and make arrest," Lt. Kolencik said.
As far as where Carey's six children are staying Saturday evening, Lt. Kolencik said that's unclear at this time.
Carey's family has set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for funeral expenses.
