Mother Charged After 3 Children Found Alone In Apartment
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Pittsburgh woman is facing charges after police found her three small children all alone in her locked apartment.
Ebony Scott, 38, was arrested by Pittsburgh Police Wednesday evening and charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of children.
After 911 received an anonymous tip, police from the Zone 5 station went to Scott's apartment in the Dorothy Day Apartment Building on Lincoln Avenue in the Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood.
It was there that they found her two young daughters and son home alone.
The children were aged 1, 4, and 9.
Pittsburgh Police Lt. Jason Lando told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti: "While officers were waiting to try to reach the mother tonight, we requested a rescue truck so we could make a forced entry into her [locked], third-floor apartment."
Lt. Lando said while officers were outside the apartment door, Scott arrived, and was taken into custody.
Police say she was out of breath when she arrived and allegedly lied several times about where she had been.
The children appeared to be well fed, and there was food in the apartment, but Lt. Lando said the place was "pretty messy," and because there was no adult present, Scott was arrested.
According to the court documents, police say Scott's 1-year-old daughter was found running around the apartment without any clothes on.
