Mother Accused Of Rubbing Feces On Son's Face Arrested After Missing Trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local mother, accused of intentionally making her baby ill by rubbing feces on his face, was arrested after failing to show up for her trial.

Last August, 38-year-old Lauren Buzard was arrested after police say she was caught rubbing feces on her 6-month-old son's sleeping pad and tampering with his feeding tube and IV line while at Children's Hospital.

Hospital employees had become suspicious after Buzard continued to bring in her son for mysterious illnesses.

Buzard was arrested In August and released, waiving a preliminary hearing to go to trial.

However, police say Buzard failed to show up for the trial last week, on charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person.

Police say one of the stipulations of her bond was that Buzard was not allowed to have contact with her son.

But police say they got a tip that Buzard had moved into the house where the baby was living – with his father and grandmother – on the South Side.

Buzard allegedly said that her charges had been dropped.

After receiving the tip, police went to the house and say they saw Buzard looking down from a second-story window. Once inside, they found her hiding under a pile of boxes.

Police also say the baby had been left alone in another room, where there was an unattended open flame.

Buzard was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.
