Mother Accused Of Bringing Kids To Drug Buy

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A Shaler mother is under arrest after police say she brought her kids to a drug buy.

Pittsburgh police say 26-year-old Courtney Hanus, and her three children were in a van parked at Penn Circle West.

She was reportedly parked very far away from the entrance to the building, as well as away from other vehicles.

Police say they witnessed Jaquae Freeman exit the building, and get into Hanus' van.

Officers said they knew that Freeman was a drug dealer in the East Liberty area, after he had been previously busted for crack cocaine, and a firearm.

When officers approached the van, officers say Freeman dropped a marijuana cigar on his lap, and then began to put something in his shoe.

When officers searched Freeman, they recovered 11 stamp bags of heroin in his shoe.

Police documents show that Freeman told arresting officers, "Man, I'm just trying to make some money to feed my kids."

Both Freeman and Hanus were taken into custody.

Freeman is charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana possession, possession with intent and criminal use of communication.

Hanus is charged with endangering the welfare of children.

Her mother came and picked up the three kids, and the van.
