Morning Commuters Hampered By Veterans Bridge Work
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -The Tuesday morning commute was not a smooth one for thousands of drivers.
The ramp to Route 28 will be closed for more than two weeks, which means commuters will have to follow detours or find a new way in and out of town.
The latest PennDOT project had to do with the Veterans Bridge. Crews resurfaced it overnight and left only one lane open.
However, that wasn't the real problem. They also shut down the Route 28 ramp coming off the bridge and that's where all of the traffic delays came from.
East Ohio Street was not a pretty picture as car after car became stuck in a parade of people looking to get to Route 28.
"So far today we lost 30 minutes trying to get on 28 to this point," Shannon Mann said.
Horns blared and they were not trumpets sounding joy.
"I went up to go on the Boulevard of the Allies, it's backed all the way onto the ramp. I go all the way around, there's only one lane to get back onto this. It's impossible," Leah Wilson aid."
"We're not from here so we're [going to] have to deal with the traffic until we figure something else out," Mann said.
PennDOT recommends finding an alternate route because that ramp will be closed for the next 16 days, 24 hours a day.
