More Snow To Blanket Area, Waters Continue To Rise
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Snow continues to fly across much of southwestern Pennsylvania today, although very lightly to the south and east of Pittsburgh.
Most of the snow has been falling from Pittsburgh to the north and west.
KDKA meteorologist Dennis Bowman says that through 8 a.m., four inches of snow had fallen on the city, mainly on grassy surfaces. Meanwhile, less than one inch was reported at Brackenridge and Greensburg.
Other snow totals include six inches at Ohioville in Beaver County, six inches at Jamestown in Mercer County and seven inches at Grove City. There was only an inch reported at Washington, Pa.
Bowman says we can expect three to five inches of fresh snow from Pittsburgh to the north and west; but to the south and east of town, only one to three inches will be experienced.
The other issue is flooding. Many creeks and streams are expected to overflow their banks.
The Ohio River in Pittsburgh is expected to crest at 26.6 feet at 1 a.m. on Saturday, which would close the Parkway Central, or "bathtub" area, in addition to keeping the 10th Street Bypass and Mon Parking Wharf closed.
Temperatures will only reach the mid-30s for highs today, and drop to about 28 tonight with snow diminishing and ending toward Saturday morning.
Rounding out the weekend, Bowman says Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a sprinkle or a flurry possible and a high of 46 degrees.
On Sunday, it is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high of 41.
