More Road Construction Projects To Begin Tonight
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Construction crews are getting a jump on some major weekend road construction projects Thursday night.
At least one of those projects is going to stay for a while.
Some of the weekend projects are more of a concern than others. For instance, the ramp from the Liberty Bridge to Crosstown Boulevard will be closed again this weekend.
"We are going to close the ramp from the inbound Boulevard of the Allies to the outbound Liberty Bridge," PennDOT Spokesman Jim Struzzi said.
That closure will begin Sunday morning and continue through most of August.
"It's going to have a significant impact on motorists coming from Oakland traveling to the South Hills," Struzzi said.
The closure of Route 65 in both directions at Marshall Avenue in Manchester will begin Friday night. That means two lanes of Route 65 will be reduced down to one through the detour.
The good news the detour is relatively short and simple.
In the North Hills, where McKnight Road and Thompson Run are already undergoing work, comes work on Babcock Boulevard that will start Thursday night. The work will continue every weeknight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
In the area between Babcock and Rochester expect one lane of alternating use for the next several weeks.
Finally, PennDOT is warning you to expect heavy delays Saturday due to concrete patching on the Parkway East near the Allegheny County Jail from 2nd Avenue to Stanwix Street.
