More Pens Heading To Russia For Olympics
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Olympic hockey is right around the corner and the Pittsburgh Penguins will be well represented in Sochi, Russia.
On Tuesday, Team Canada announced its 25-man roster. While it was no surprise to see Penguins captain Sidney Crosby named to the team, there had been much speculation about which of his teammates would join him.
Marc-Andre Fleury, James Neal and Kris Letang were some of the names being talked about as possibilities to make the squad.
However, Kunitz got the call while the others did not.
In 44 games this season, Kunitz has 23 goals and 24 assists, with 11 goals coming on the power play.
Team Russia also announced their roster Tuesday morning. Once again, it should come as no surprise that Evgeni Malkin will be representing the host country in the Olympics.
Malkin has battled some injuries this season, but has still managed to rack up 11 goals and 33 assists in just 33 games.
As for Team Finland, Jussi Jokinen and Olli Maatta will be making the trip to Sochi as well.
Jokinen has 12 goals and 18 assists in 44 games.
Maatta has enjoyed a great start to his rookie season and continues to turn heads. No matter what role Maatta has played, he has performed admirably. In 43 games, Maatta has three goals and 10 assists to go along with a plus-three rating and just eight penalty minutes.
Last week, Paul Martin and Brooks Orpik were named to Team USA, which is being coached by Dan Bylsma.
