More From Tomlin on Injured Steelers
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- On this, the penultimate day of training camp, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media at St. Vincent College to break down Sunday night's 8:00 P.M. preseason contest against the Indianapolis Colts at Heinz Field.
Coming off a last-second 24-23 loss in the lid-lifter at Philadelphia, Tomlin plans to play his first string about twice as long this weekend. He says Ben Roethlisberger will start under center, followed by Charlie Batch, with possibly more reps coming the way of third-string quarterback Jerrod Johnson.
Tomlin flatly said there is no further update on James Harrison, who had surgery Wednesday to tend to an irritation in his left kneecap. With Harrison out for the foreseeable future, and fellow outside linebacker Jason Worilds nursing a wrist injury for an undetermined amount of time, it stands to reason backup Stevenson Sylvester and free agent Brandon Johnson will see their share of action once again.
However, Tomlin did not rule out the possibility that offensive tackle Max Starks, who just came off the physically unable to perform list and is expected to practice for the first time Friday, will suit up for Sunday. In fact, he said only those still on the PUP list are definitively out for Sunday.
Starks, while rehabbing a torn ACL in his right knee, had been replaced by 2012 draftee Mike Adams.
