Moon Township Teachers Go On Strike
Labor disputes have paralyzed two local school districts. While seniors in Bethel Park are going back to class, even though the teachers are still on strike, teachers in Moon went on strike Monday morning.
Moon Township teachers walked out, but this is a strike with a twist.
On the first day, the 295 members of the Moon Education Association are not on the picket line in hopes that they will be able to come to a contract agreement soon.
This walk out began after no success in a 15 hours of negotiation over the weekend.
The issues that the teachers are interested in negotiating include healthcare and increases in pay over the term of their contracts.
Moon School Districts 3,700 students will be sleeping in today.
Donna Bentler expressed her concerns for the foreign exchange student that she is hosting this year.
"Her visa will be up and she may not even be able to graduate with the class that she has been with since school started," Bentler said.
Negotiations are set for later today.
If a deal is not made, the non-picketing teacher strike will change and they will be on the picket line tomorrow morning.
