Man, Dog Found Shot At Scene Of Monongahela Fire

MONONGAHELA, Pa. (KDKA) -- Emergency crews found a man and a dog suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene of a fire at a Monongahela home Saturday afternoon.
It happened in the 700 block of Yohe Street around 1:15 p.m.
State police say the fire department arrived on the scene for a report of a fire. There was a small fire in the basement of the home that was easily extinguished.
Upon further investigation, they also found a 50-year-old man upstairs suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. State police identify him as Charles Sleith, of Monongahela City.
Sleith was flown to Mercy Hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive.
State police say there was also a pit bull suffering from a gunshot wound in the home. It was taken to a local veterinary hospital in an unknown condition.
Police canvassed the neighborhood and searched the home for evidence that might explain what really happened.
"There was a firearm removed from the residence," State Trooper Robert Broadwater said. "It's now in state police custody."
Authorities say there is no potential threat to the public in the area.
