Monessen Man Accused Of Leading Police On Chase Sought
CHARLEROI (KDKA) – Authorities are asking for help from the public in finding a chase suspect who they describe as dangerous and violent.
Police say Shawn Patterson, 30, of Monessen, is a dangerous man with a violent past, and just recently he led police on a chase before disappearing into the night.
"Since he was a juvenile, we've been dealing with him," said Chief Eric Porter, of Charleroi Regional Police.
The convicted drug dealer's latest run-in with the law came when he tried to run from officers in Speers, Westmoreland County.
"Our officers, knowing he was wanted, observed Patterson in a vehicle," said Chief Porter. "One officer shined a light in his face and identified him as Shawn Patterson."
It happened around 12:40 a.m. Thursday at a stop sign on State Street.
"Patterson fled on Interstate 70 at a high rate of speed," Chief Porter said.
Behind the wheel of a jeep, police say Patterson hit the gas.
Chief Porter says, "Estimated in excess of 100 miles an hour."
Forcing motorist off the road, weaving in and out of traffic, Patterson wasn't alone.
"He had a passenger a female passenger," said Chief Porter.
Citing the safety of all concerned, officers broke off the pursuit at the 51/70 interchange.
In the past, Patterson has faced aggravated assault and drug charges.
Chief Porter says several years ago there was a similar incident where he ran from police. Patterson was eventually caught.
Charleroi's chief says he has a message for Patterson.
"You can't run forever," he said.
