Mitt Romney Makes 4th Visit To Pittsburgh Area
IRWIN (KDKA) -- An enthusiastic crowd of nearly 1,000 supporters in Irwin, Westmoreland County, heard Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney go on the attack against the Democratic incumbent.
"President Obama attacks success and therefore under President Obama we have less success and I will change that," Romney said.
Romney says Obama is a big government liberal.
"That this election is to a great degree about the soul of America," he said. "Do we believe in an America that is great because of government or do we believe in an America that's great because of free people allowed to pursue their dreams and build their future?"
Romney himself has been under attack by the Obama campaign for being out of touch with the middle class.
KDKA Political Editor Jon Delano asked Romney how he relates to the middle class.
"Well, I was fortunate to be elected the governor of Massachusetts and that responsibility in a state by the way that's overwhelmingly registered Democrat, people rallied around the views that I had to help people in my state," Romney said.
As for his tax returns: "I'm releasing two years of tax returns – it's the same as John McCain – and that's a precedent that I'm following."
KDKA's Jon Delano also asked Romney about Pennsylvania's controversial photo ID voter law.
Delano: "Would it bother you if three quarters of a million Pennsylvanians could not vote because of this photo ID?"
Romney: "I'd be very surprised if people who want to vote who are legitimate voters, would not have the capacity to vote. As a matter of fact, I understand to attend a Barack Obama fundraiser, you have to show a picture ID, so there are a lot of things in America that require an ID and I haven't seen Pennsylvania's law, but I hope there's a provision that makes it easy for people to get a photo ID if they don't have one."
The Obama campaign says Governor Romney is just wrong – you don't need a photo ID to attend one of President Obama's campaign rallies.
As for tax returns, the President released eight years of tax returns before he ran for office, George Bush released five years and Governor Romney's father released 12 years.
