Missing Westmoreland Co. Girl Found On Her Way To Kansas
GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Pittsburghers are being credited with solving the mystery of a missing teenager.
Police say the Westmoreland County girl took off with a young man, but an alert viewer helped to stop her in her tracks.
State police say 18-year-old Lisa Flowers was on her way to Kansas when she was located.
Police say Flowers was driving to Kansas through Ohio with a man she met online, and his father.
While they were all in the car, someone who had seen a picture of Flowers on the news called the father to say the girl in the car was a missing person, and that Pennsylvania State Police in Greensburg were looking for her.
The father pulled over, called authorities immediately to confirm what he had been told and waited for police.
"The father did exactly what he should have done," said Trooper Steve Limani, of the Pennsylvania State Police. "He pulled over, he had contacted the State Police here in Greensburg and we were able to get in touch with the local authorities where he was at. He was actually in Lewisburg, Ohio, at the time, still in transit. That police department was able to help us in just basically detaining them until the family was able to get en route to their location."
Flowers was returned to her family, and at this point, it doesn't appear the man that Flowers met online, and his father intentionally committed a crime.
But Flowers has some mental challenges, and this incident does serve as a warning for parents, family and friends be careful who you or your loved ones might be talking to on the Internet.
