1 Arrested After Missing Man Found Dead
NEW CASTLE (KDKA)-A missing New Castle man was found dead Wednesday night and another man has been taken into custody.
Family reported that 23-year-old Jahmia Ward was last seen last on Oct. 2.
The family had been actively searching for him at nearby river banks and wooded areas. They also posted signs on poles and inside area businesses.
On Wednesday, officers were searching the wooded area off of North Street in New Castle, where they found Ward's body covered in brush.
The victim's mother, Regina Washington, wants the person responsible for murdering her son to get what he deserves.
"I have no mercy and I want the most I can get out of it," Washington said. "A child is supposed to bury their parents, never to a mother bury their children."
Around 10 p.m., Wednesday police arrested a man in connection with Ward's death. Now, Corey Phillips, 23, of Youngstown, is facing murder charges.
Phillips is being held in the Lawrence County Jail and is expected to be arraigned Thursday.
Ward was living with a girl he had been dating in New Castle. Washington said the girl called her that night he went missing to tell her he never came home.
"They were supposed to do some deal transactions and I guess the deal went bad and he was upset with Jahmia," Washington said.
Washington said her son moved from Charlotte, N.C. to New Castle three years ago. She said he got involved with the wrong people when he moved to Pennsylvania.
