Officials: Search For Missing Kayaker In Ohio River Is Now Recovery Effort
LEETSDALE (KDKA) -- The search for a missing kayaker resumed Sunday morning in the Ohio River, but by evening, officials made a somber announcement.
Crews began searching around 8 a.m. for a kayaker who went missing after an accident Saturday.
The missing person, believed to be a female, reportedly went over the edge of the Dashields Lock and Dam along with 25-year-old Brittany Evans, of West View.
Crews pulled Evans' body from the river around 7 p.m. Saturday. The search for the second kayaker was called off Saturday night around 9:15 p.m.

Around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, officials told KDKA that weather forced search crews to exit the water.
Officials announced the search is now strictly a recovery effort.
Crescent Township Assistant Fire Chief Glen Kriger said that no boats will be used in Monday's search.
There is reportedly a section of the Dashields Lock and Dam -- called the "boil" -- in which the turbulence of the water could have claimed a victim.
