"Million Dollar Arm" Brings Jon Hamm To PNC Park

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Our city's seen its share of celebrities lately, with movies constantly filming all over Pittsburgh.

But Sunday night, "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm was at PNC Park to promote his new film "Million Dollar Arm."

The movie should have particular appeal to Pittsburghers, as it's based on the real-life "Million Dollar Arm" contest which led to the Pirates signing two pitchers from India.

"Hopefully people will respond and I know people in Pittsburgh will enjoy it," said Hamm. "But I definitely think it will translate across the country as well."

Real-life "Million Dollar Arm" contest winner Rinku Singh was also at PNC Park to talk about the movie. He says it's a pretty accurate portrayal of his experience.

"I would say the movie's 80 percent a completely true story," he said, "and it's called a movie. It's Hollywood. A movie never can be 100 percent true. You know, they have to put a little cheap cream on top of it to make it taste better. But ... it's real, I'm happy the way they did it."

Singh also spent some time with the Pirates team, talking with player like Andrew McCutchen.

Hamm will also stay for Sunday's game against St. Louis.

The 8:05 p.m. game was the first televised Sunday night game for the Pirates since 1996 and will be broadcast on ESPN.

J.B. Bernstein, the agent Hamm plays in "Million Dollar Arm" also talked to KDKA and says he says ever since he signed Singh and Dinesh Patel to a minor league contract, "it's been a pretty good ride."

Bernstein says not many were behind him until it worked.

"Right up until the day [Singh and Patel] got signed everybody thought I was the dumbest guy in the world, as soon as it worked [people told me] great job," he said.
