Mike Yeo New Minnesota Wild Coach
PITTSBURGH (KDKA)- Former Penguins assistant coach Mike Yeo will be named the new head coach of the Minnesota Wild later this afternoon.
Yeo will replace former Wilkes-Barre head coach Todd Richards.
The Wild front office is quickly having a Penguins flavor to it with Yeo as head coach, Chuck Fletcher as GM and Michel Therrien being a scout.
Interestingly, Yeo beat out Therrien, his former boss, for the head coaching job.
Other candidates for the job were Ken Hitchcock and Craig MacTavish.
The former Pens assistant guided Minnesota's top farm club, the Houston Aeros, to the Calder Cup finals.
While with the Penguins, Yeo received plenty of criticism from fans for the team's failure on the power play.
