Miami FBI Agent Testifies In Armored Vehicle Heist Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Testimony continued Wednesday in the murder trial of a former armored truck guard accused of killing his co-worker and stealing millions of dollars.
Today, Miami FBI agent Jason Kaelin testified that he found more than $1 million inside a suitcase that was in a public storage locker reserved by Kenneth Konias. It was found after his arrest in Pompano Beach, Fla. last year.
Konias also led investigators to a cab driver who he says helped him get false identification cards. Konias reserved the storage locker under the name "Lucien Nadet."
Investigators also found $104,160 hidden underneath a sink within the cab driver's home, and $30,000 in a suitcase in the trunk of his cab.
The agent also said Konias had a cologne named "Guilty" within his backpack, as well as strip club cards.
When agents searched the house where he was found in Pompano Beach, they also discovered two firearms.
One was registered to Konias, while the other was registered to Michael Haines, the armored truck partner who was killed.
Meanwhile, Garda Truck 5678 has been remodeled, but prosecutors say it is the truck involved the murder of Michael Haines and the theft of $2.3 million.
Konias saw the truck again today, this time in handcuffs and leg chains, because prosecutors wanted Judge David Cashman to see the exact dimensions of the truck while it is in the custody of city police on the North Side.
Konias' trial recessed from testimony as all parties involved went to the view of the truck in question.
Earlier, a female acquaintance testified that Konias once told her he could take money from an armored car in which he worked and they could run away.
But on cross examination, the defense got her to admit she thought that was a joke.
