Mendenhall, Wallace Taking Demotions In Stride
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's Ravens' week once again, and the Steelers are making some changes to their lineup.
Head Coach Mike Tomlin demoted two star players on Tuesday who seem to be taking it in stride, and we're still waiting to see if there will be a change at quarterback.
Ben Roethlisberger threw the football at practice on Wednesday, but that was about it. He spent the rest of the day either watching or in the trainer's room.
But for the rest of the team, this was the first day Tomlin's demotions took effect.
After their lackluster performances on Sunday in Cleveland, Rashard Mendenhall and Mike Wallace practiced on Wednesday for the first time as third-string running back and co-starting wide receiver.
Both seemed to handle the demotion similar styles.
"Just take things day-by-day, so I don't know what's going to happen going forward," said Mendenhall.
"I work hard every single day, so coach made that decision, I just go out and play," Wallace added.
For Mendenhall, the move came after he fumbled twice against the Browns, the first of which got him pulled early from the game.
"Fumbles do happen, but I'm not exactly sure what it's all about, so for me this is what's in front of me and this is what I'm going to go with," he said. "Ultimately, we're professionals, we're running backs and it falls on us."
As for Wallace, he still expects to play this week against the Ravens, and everything else is just white noise.
"It really doesn't matter to tell you the truth; I just gotta still do what I have to do regardless of the situation… what it is. Coach does everything for a reason," he said.
