Men Accused In Robbery, Shooting Of Jitney Driver To Stand Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The two men accused in the violent robbery and shooting death of a jitney driver last month in Wilkinsburg appeared in court this morning for a hearing.
The victim, 28-year-old Monica Proviano, was shot in the head. Her wounds were so extensive that authorities had a hard time trying to identify her.
According to this morning's testimony, Proviano was told she was being robbed of her money and her vehicle. In the end, she was shot in the face and left for dead in Wilkinsburg.
Proviano was working as a jitney driver to make extra money for school when she was gunned down.
The defendants, Timothy Brock and William McGraw, planned to rob whatever jitney driver answered the phone first, according to police.
The rental car was found being driven by one of the suspects in Beltzhoover.
The victim's mother called the whole thing a waste.
"Jitney drivers don't have money. A real jitney driver when they come out, they say if you don't have change then we have to stop and ask a dollar," said Terry Polk, Proviano's mother. "If you are going to rob something, excuse me and don't take this the wrong way, you might as well have went up in the bank. That was useless; not only did I lose a child but she's going to lose a child. It's just sad all around the board."
Brock and McGraw were ordered to stand trial.
Both suspects are 19-years-old and are facing a list of charges including, homicide, robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle and conspiracy.
