Memorial Held At Creighton University For Slain Monroeville Doctor
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A memorial was held today for a Monroeville native found murdered in his home in Nebraska; and while those who knew him are grieving, little is being said about who killed him and his wife.
Dr. Roger Brumback, 65, and his wife, Mary, were getting ready for retirement, expecting to relocate from Omaha, Neb., to West Virginia next month.
The Gateway High School grad turned Creighton University professor in the School of Pathology hadn't lived in this area for years, but his mysterious murder has left students on the Nebraska campus horrified.
Thursday on campus, students and faculty came together for a memorial.
"He was just an incredibly caring man," said one student. "He was always very interested in giving us all the information."
Creighton University issued this statement: "This is a terrible tragedy and we grieve with the family of Dr. Brumback and his wife, Mary. Our hearts go out to his colleagues and students in the School of Medicine.
The bodies of Dr. Brumback and his wife were discovered inside their home by a piano mover who arrived and found the door of the home slightly ajar.
Police in Nebraska haven't said much about the investigation, only that the one or ones responsible for the murders and the detectives know specifics of the case, and releasing details would compromise the integrity of the case.
But police are looking at any similarities between this killing and another case that touched the Pathology Department at the college when an 11-year-old was killed, the son of a pathology professor, along with a housekeeper back in 2008.
It's a case that remains unsolved.
