Meek Hoping To Repeat His 2010 Performance

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pirates setup man Evan Meek joined the FAN Morning Show to give an update on the team's progress in Spring Training.

Meek described his feelings as a sense of disappointment after finding out he was not going to be the closer for the Pirates this season. But he knew the Pirates weren't going to make a bad choice by picking either him or Joel Hanrahan.

On Thursday, Meek and Hanrahan were lit up for seven runs in two innings, but Meek isn't concerned with his performance. He said "that is what Spring Training is for, to work out all the kinks and getting comfortable on the mound again."

Meek sees a big difference this year with new pitching coach Ray Searage. He said Searage is a very positive person and makes it very comfortable for all the players on the staff, especially the younger players.

This season, Meek hopes to repeat his performance from 2010 by staying consistent in his workouts and his pitching motions on the mound. Last season, Meek pitched in 80 innings with a 2.14 ERA, striking out 70 batters.
