Medical Frontiers: National Heart Month This February
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- On this edition of Medical Frontiers, Dr. Pifer is joined by West Penn System Cardiologists Dr. George Gabriel and Dr. Travis Wilson.
Gabriel practices primarily out of Allegheny General Hospital, Wilson practices at AGH and Canonsburg General Hospital.
The doctors discussed heart health to go along with the theme of "Heart Month" on Medical Frontiers.
Heart disease is the no. 1 killer in western societies today, diet and lack of exercise seem to be the overwhelming cause. Heart disease prevention has a lot to do with diet and exercise, the doctors recommend limiting bad cholesterol and adding regular aerobic exercise.
Diabetes and heart health were also discussed, as were health foods. The doctors' favorite heart health foods are fish oil and red yeast rice. Fish oil lowers bad cholesterol while raising good cholesterol, and red yeast rice lowers bad cholesterol.
Listen to Medical Frontiers Mondays at 7 p.m. on NewsRadio 1020 KDKA.
