State Of Emergency Lifted In McKeesport

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) – While we didn't see much snow from this weekend's storm, some communities in the Pittsburgh area are still feeling the storm's effects.

In McKeesport, officials declared a state of emergency Monday and cancelled school because of the icy streets.

The state of emergency was lifted this afternoon. However, drivers were still having issues this morning.

Roads in McKeesport are in significantly better shape than they were yesterday, but some hills are still causing problems.

After more than two weeks of waiting, the city finally received a 100-ton shipment of salt Monday afternoon.

On Monday, cars crawled along Eden Park Boulevard in front of McKeesport High School.

Today, that road is clear. However, the school district cancelled classes because of icy side streets.

McKeesport road crews are responsible for more than 100-miles of road. The main roads are now in good shape, but many secondary streets were still sheets of ice.

That's where road crews will focus today.

Road crews have already ordered more salt so the city will be prepared if more winter weather hits.

However, there is no guarantee when the next shipment will arrive.

For now, drivers are avoiding the icy roads and the mayor is urging drivers to use caution until all streets are cleared.
