McKees Rocks Police Chase Suspect In Custody After Crash
MCKEES ROCKS (KDKA) - McKees Rocks Police have charged a teenager from Turtle Creek following a high-speed chase early Monday morning.
According to police, an officer attempted to pull over a vehicle that did not have its headlights on around 12:30 a.m.
Police said instead, the 17-year-old driver took off, weaving between cars of West Carson Street and speeding as the teenager got on the Parkway East.
"Sixty miles an hour on West Carson and speeds approaching 80 on the Parkway," said McKees Rocks Police Chief Robert Cifrulak.
Because of poor radio transmissions, Chief Cifrulak said his officer pulled back near the Squirrel Hill Tunnels.
"The supervisor heard that the officer's transmissions were weak and breaking up and he ordered him to terminate the pursuit, at which point he did."
By the time the officer got through the tunnel, 911 dispatch had informed police that the teenager had crashed the vehicle near the Greensburg Pike exit.
The teenager does not have a license according to police and Chief Cifrulak said, "There was a small bag of suspected crack cocaine on the passenger floor board of his vehicle."
His name is not being released due to his age, but police said the teen has been charged with fleeing police, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a controlled substance, plus several other traffic offenses.
