MCKEES ROCKS (KDKA) -- An 18-year-old who was shot in the head on Monday in McKees Rocks has died.
Hasson Shackelford was shot just feet away from his house on Camp Street as he walked home from school. He was taken to the hospital and was listed in critical condition, but he later died.
Police have not said if there are any suspects in the case.
"Hassan was loving, caring, funny, charming, charismatic, brave and intelligent. He loved his mom and would do anything for me. He had goals. He wanted to go to college. He was always in school and trying to do the right thing," said Shackelford's mother, Shateash Washington.
Shackelford was a junior at the Sto-Rox Junior/Senior High School. Because of the unexpected tragedy, Interim Superintendent Dr. Joseph C. Dimperio says he, along with the school board, made the decision to move the school to remote learning for the rest of the week.
"Give things an opportunity to kind of settle down and give students an opportunity to just focus on their academics," said Dimperio.
Counseling is available for students as well as staff at the high school.
"He was very well-liked, particularly by the staff members. Several staff members have told me that," said Dimperio.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
