McDonald's Offers All-Day Breakfast, Some Worry About Slower Service

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Ronald McDonald was riding the T on Monday, taking selfies and handing out Egg McMuffins, now available whenever your local McDonald's is open.

"All day. All day. The rooster's going to be crowing all day, cracking eggs all day. This is going to be great. Good times," Ronald told KDKA money editor Jon Delano.

Breakfast all day?

"Oh I love it. It's the best idea ever," said Ashley Hildreth of Brentwood.

Besides Egg McMuffins, customers can now order Sausage McMuffins, hot cakes, hash browns and oatmeal all day long.

"It's something our customers have been asking for for years, believe it or not," says Amy Schillinger, regional marketing manager for McDonald's.

Now many can eat an Egg McMuffin any time of day, but the real question is will this affect service at McDonald's, as they seek to serve all kinds of customers and their needs?

Some customers worry service will slow down as workers struggle to prepare both breakfast and burgers and fries.

"Once you increase that, you have to increase the number of people, or things slow down real quick," says regular customer Joe Maloney of Dormont.

McDonalds acknowledges some franchises have to adjust.

Delano: "Is it going to be a challenge for some of the franchises?"

Schillinger: "It will be, just due to the size of our grill space, but again as I mentioned we went through all the testing to make sure we can deliver that without a disruption to your service."

Breakfast time is still limited to breakfast, although some want McDonald's to reverse its ban on the regular menu during the morning.

"I'm a construction worker. Sometimes I don't want breakfast. I wouldn't mind having a hamburger at six o'clock in the morning," says Kurt Smith of Upper St. Clair.

"We can certainly explore that in the future," adds Schillinger.

But until then it's all day breakfast, not all day Big Macs.
