McCutchen Reflects On Busy Off-Season That Included His Wedding
BRADENTON, Florida (KDKA) -- It wasn't your typical off-season for Pittsburgh Pirates' MVP Andrew McCutchen.
Besides working out and getting ready for the season to start, he was able to fit in a wedding and honeymoon.
"Got married, that was the big thing," said McCutchen. "And it's been a good ride this off-season. Had a lot of fun and just enjoyed ourselves."
Nov. 22, 2014 was the day that made his off-season so much fun. It was the day he married his fiancée, Maria Hanslovan.
It was an elegant ceremony that took place at St. Paul Cathedral in Oakland.
"It was in Pittsburgh, so we got married in Pittsburgh and had family out," McCutchen said. "It was a very small wedding; we didn't want to make it big, extravagant, that's not the type of people we are. We just had some people closest to us come and they were able to celebrate with us. It was a lot of fun."
Now he trades in the tux for Pirates' black and gold for the next 10 months.
No games yet, that doesn't start until next week, but Tuesday morning was the official kickoff of spring training with the first full squad practice.
McCutchen has one ring and now he's hoping to add another one in October, one that says World Series champions.
"I just love being here and don't really want to go anywhere else," McCutchen added.
