South Side Crackdown Results In More Than 100 Citations
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The mayor announced results after the first night of the police crackdown on the South Side that started Friday.
Increased enforcement is a part of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's "Enforcement Blitz" to cut down on crime and chaos on the South Side.
The mayor's plan coincidentally came about after a weekend police chase that ended on the South Side with five officers shooting at the driver and his mother.
The incident happened just around the same time that many bars were closing and police struggled to control a drunken, disorderly crowd.
After the first night of the South Side crackdown Friday night and early Saturday morning, police came back with the following results:
- 19 arrests
- 94 traffic citations
- 42 towed vehicles
- 14 non-traffic citations
